A frankly monstrous Prime Day PC ‘deal’ has made me very, very angry, so here are three far superior gaming PCs I’d buy in a flash-
While hunting for gaming PC deals in the Prime Day event this morning, I came across this monstrosity over at Walmart. At just under $580, you might be tempted to get this as a gift from someone who wants to get into PC gaming and let’s be honest, it does look like a really cool machine. But looks are deceiving and this is one of the more egregious ‘deals’ I’ve seen so far.
First of all, the graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super. This GPU is now five years old and while that might not sound particularly ancient, it’s far less capable than an RTX 4060 or even an RTX 3060. At the time, it was fine for 1080p gaming and it’s probably okay now in lots of games, but you really shouldn’t be buying a new one for this kind of money.

If you’re not on the Baldur’s Gate 3 hype train, this new extraction shooter is having an open beta you can play instead-
There’s a big new RPG out now and everyone seems to agree that it’s great, but if for some reason you’re not interested and want something else to play, try this: Hawked, the PvPvE extraction shooter announced by My.Games in 2022, has kicked off an open beta that’s set to run until August 17.
The setup for Hawked is pretty basic as these things go: There’s an island filled with powerful artifacts from a lost civilization, and the current inhabitants don’t want to give them up. Instead of acknowledging their cultural sovereignty and respecting their wishes, you—on behalf of the treasure-hunting adventurers group known as GRAIL—are going to bust in, kick ass, and take what doesn’t belong to you. Hey, somebody’s gotta do it, right?
Along with the usual run-and…
Microsoft, Meta and OpenAI back AMD’s monstrous new 153 billion-transistor alternative to Nvidia’s AI chips-
AMD’s launch event for its new MI300X AI platform was backed by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI and many more. Those big three all said they planned to use the chip.
AMD’s CEO Lisa Su bigged up MI300X, describing it as the most complex chip the company has ever produced. All told, it contains 153 billion transistors, significantly more than the 80 billion of Nvidia’s all-conquering H100 GPU.
It’s also built from no fewer than 12 chiplets on a mix of 5nm and 6nm nodes using what AMD says is the most advanced packaging in the world. The base layer of the chip is four big IO dies including Infinity cache, PCIe Gen 5, HBM interfaces, and Infinity Fabric. On top of that are eight CDNA 3 accelerator chiplets or “XCDs” for a total of 1.3…
Logitech’s booked a seat on the AI hype train with its new AI Prompt Builder and forthcoming AI button-enabled mouse-
It’s the year of the AI PC, don’t you know? So that means every tech vendor is getting in on the machine learning hype train, including peripherals maestro Logitech with a new feature in its Logi Options+ app. Creatively titled AI Prompt Builder, it fires up a little ChatGPT window at the press of a button, allowing you to rephrase or summarise blocks of text, along with some other actions. And if your current Logitech mouse isn’t one that the system recognises, then don’t worry—at least one new model will sport a soon-to-be-ubiquitous AI button.
I’ll confess to being rather partial to Logitech’s mice, namely the MX Master series and my current choice of rodent, the MX Vertical. However, I’ve never bothered to dig into what the Logi Options+ app has to offer, mostly because …
Our favorite horror game of 2022 is on sale for Steam’s horror sale and just fixed our biggest issue-
There are almost no excuses left to skip Signalis, our favorite horror game of 2022. It’s 20% off for the Steam horror sale and it just received a patch that lets you bypass our biggest problem with it.
Signalis plays like old Resident Evils—third-person shooting from various over-the-head camera angles—while you explore abandoned facilities warped by nightmarish monsters and dream logic like in Silent Hill. One of the first things you pick up is a copy of The King In Yellow—it gets weird fast.
For $15.99, you can experience what might be one of the best horror games in the last 10 years. In our review of Signalis, Dominic Tarason said it “takes a hundred familiar elements, inspirations and references and weaves them into something entirely new, and thoroug…
Naughty Dog apologizes to Last of Us players on PC-
Naughty Dog’s prestige third-person narrative game The Last of Us Part 1 is sitting on a Steam user rating of Mixed right now, with only 43% of user reviews giving it a thumbs up. Those user reviews on the negative tip say things like, “Hot stuttering garbage even on low settings” and “as broken as my household.” In a word: ouch.
“We know some of you have not experienced the Naughty Dog quality you expected”, begins the developer’s Twitter thread addressed to The Last of Us Part 1 PC players. “Our team is working hard to resolve issues currently preventing some of you from experiencing the game to ensure it reaches the quality level you expect and deserve.

Bethesda finally put proper ladders in a game, so of course players have dedicated themselves to designing Starfield ships without any-
After all these years, Bethesda Game Studios has finally released one of its signature RPGs with functional ladders. Glorified teleporters no more: Starfield’s ladders have proper interactive climbing animations, and since Starfield makes an attempt at somewhat realistic spacecraft designs, its ships naturally contain lots of them.
Also naturally, because it’s just a law of the universe that players will defy game developers in every possible way they can, one person has dedicated their Starfield ship building efforts to avoiding ladders.
I fixed it! The superiority of StroudEklunds side mounted bay. Truly ZERO ladders, 9k cargo, 68 mobility, and 130 speed, no mods. from r/Starfield

Overwatch 2’s new support hero Juno joins the roster in August, but you can play her for free this weekend-
Watch On
Blizzard has officially unveiled Overwatch 2’s next support hero as Juno, a bubbly astronaut healer who will be playable in a limited-time “hero trial” that starts on July 19—that’s tomorrow—and runs until July 21 on all platforms.
Juno will be accessible in all game modes except Competitive during the trial period, and will also be available in the No Limits mode in the Overwatch arcade, which will enable everyone in the game to play as Juno instead of racing to pick her first.
Details on the new hero’s abilities haven’t been revealed at this point but today’s trailer showcases some highlights: Juno’s Mediblaster weapon, which seems to heal or harm depending on who it’s aimed at, her Glide Boost ability that looks like a limited form of flight (or maybe…
